It's About Time..

Well folks, we're 4 days away. On December 1st, a new FTC law will go into effect REQUIRING bloggers and youtubers to disclose all information about products that the publisher mentions including; if the product was given for free, whether they are speaking from their own personal experience with the product, if they have any affiliation with the company, and whether or not they are receiving money for reviewing/mentioning the product. Failure to do so could result in an $11,000 fine.

For me, I feel like this new law unfortunately hurts smaller bloggers/youtubers. It is kind of excessive to include ALL information about everything youve used during a makeup tutorial and even include information on clothes youre wearing or things seen in the background if they have particular logos on them. All new, starting-out gurus obviously are not sponsored by anyone (well, not usually, anyway..) and it would be really sad for someone to report them for not mentioning, say for example, a brush they used but didn't think about listing because it was bought with their own money on their own decision. I for one do not intend on calling out everyone who fails to include all of this information. HOWEVER, I think this law is long overdue for people such as "Blair" and "Elle" and all other popular people on youtube. By not telling their subscribers that they were paid (hundreds of dollars) for reviews and even LYING about it when confronted, they are being completely dishonest to their naive, younger subscribers and it is just not right. Many people argue with me, stating that "if you dont like them, dont watch them" or "if you dont trust their reviews, dont buy the product", yeah OBVIOUSLY, but the FTC apparently also finds these actions wrong, thus bringing into effect this law.
