They're the same company. In my hometown, there is one of each right next to each other in a shopping center and they have nearly the same merchandise. I was buying something for Xmas gifts last year so I looked in both stores. They both had the items I wanted, only TJ Maxx charged a few dollars more.

Okay yeah, I've heard from a lot of people that powders last pretty much forever as long as you're sanitary...For instance I've had Woodwinked eyeshadow from MAC for like 3 years, but I only used it like 4/5 times because I hate the color...so I don't know if it's things like that that need to be thrown away, but I keep my stuff closed in their containers in a drawer, so they're not moist or anything...
think about it though, once you open the product bacteria does get into it, especially after using it. powders arent that bad since you use brushes and what not, but mascara and lip products def get shit in it. anything liquidy and creamy will go bad. and it wont necessarily smell bad.

If you have good hygiene, you're fine. I have one of the MAC holiday palettes from 2007. I've only used a few times and when I have, it's been with a clean brush. Powder brushes last longer than cream products. Cream products harbor bacteria because they're moist. It just depends how you take care of your makeup.
Now Kai is gross, showers once a week and doesn't wash her hands after cleaning up Bellas poo. What does that tell you about her makeup? It's foul.

Kai buys unnecessary shit just for the sake of having it. She thinks if she buys a bunch of cheap drugstore products then it's not as bad as dropping $60 on one item. It's a classic hoarding symptom. It's always about quantity and not quality. Normal people would splurge (if they have the money to do so) on a few nice items, and wouldn't need to buy 20 different drugstore foundations.
